Born in Granada in 1975, David Martinez began his musical studies at seven years of age with his father, while singing as soloist of the Granada Conservatory choir. He later studied with his uncle, Professor Carmelo Martínez, graduating in 1993 from the Superior Conservatory of Granada with the silver medal of the Young Interpreters of the Musical Youth of Granada.

He was then accepted to the class of the Mozarteum of Salzburg, Austria, with Joaquín Clerch and Eliot Fisk as professors. In 1998, he was selected to be part of the homage to Andrés Segovia in Granada, and at the Hochschule fur Musik in Munich, Germany. He has taken master classes with David Russell, Hugo Geller, José Tomás, Iván Rijos, and Anthony Spiri in Ancient Music.

His concert career began when he was twelve years old, playing as a soloist with the Youth Orchestra of Granada. He has also played with the Orchestra of the Superior Conservatory of Granada, the Joven Orquesta de Castilla la Mancha, the Philarmonic Orchestra of Kharkov (Ukraine), Orquesta Ciudad de Granada, and the International Youth Orchestra. He has given solo concerts throughout Spain, Germany, Egypt, United States, Portugal, and Turkey.

David Martinez has won over fifteen international prizes, including those of Plasencia (1996), Comillas (1996), Vélez Málaga (1997), “Andrés Segovia” of Linares (1997), “Villa de Puente Genil” (2000), “Ciudad de Coria” (2001), “Andrés Segovia” de La Herradura, Almuñecar (2004), “Julián Arcas” de Almería (2004), and the First Prize at the“Francisco Tárrega” of Benicassim (2004).
