Welcome to The Miami Classical Guitar Society! Now celebrating an exciting 27th Season, 2014-2015! We hope you will join us!

A non-profit 501c3 cultural organization, the MCGS initiated and developed a guitar movement in the city of Miami in 1987, establishing South Florida as a hub of international importance for the instrument. With a mission to promote the art and appreciation of the Classical Guitar in our community, the MCGS has organized close to 200 concerts featuring the top international world renowned guitarists, as well as national and local performers. Dedicated to enhancing awareness, appreciation, and education of this beautiful instrument, the MCGS has offered guitar lovers, local performers, teachers, and students the means to further develop their talents and passion for the classical guitar through our yearly cultural programming of concerts, master classes, lectures, lecture-recitals, guitar courses, ensembles, and international competitions.

One of the most thriving guitar societies in the US, the MCGS has also directed two of the most prestigious International Guitar Festivals in the country with the Guitar Foundation of America, created the First Guitar Ensemble Festival of Miami, founded Miami's First International Guitar Competition, among many other educational and social events, for close to three decades.

Our initial goal of promoting the classical guitar within South Florida has been fulfilled, and we can now take part in this wonderful cultural experience. Please join us this Season!

season 21 square

Inaugural Season Concert: Saturday, October 18, 2014 - 8:00 PM

The Miami Classical Guitar Society is very excited to launch our highly anticipated 27th Season, starting October 18, with Guitar Foundation of America's First Prize Winner, Russian guitarist ANTON BARANOV!

Anton BARANOV is a prizewinner of more then fifteen prestigious international guitar competitions, including the Koblenz Guitar Competition, Andrés Segovia Competition, Agustín Barrios Competition, Robert Vidal Competition, and Pittaluga Guitar Competition. At the height of his young career, he won both the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition and the Francisco Tárrega Competition in 2013.

Known for his daring interpretation and innovative programming, guitarist and composer Roland Dyens calls him, “a real musician, one of those rare guitarists who are able to have their attendees almost forget the instrument they play, managing to have them focus on the expressivity of the music and only this.”

As part of his prize from winning the GFA competition, Mr. Baranov will embark on a 50-city concert tour throughout the United States, Mexico, Canada, and Brazil, including his debut at New York's Carnegie Hall later this month. He has just recorded his first album on the Naxos label, and has been a D'Addario artist since 2013. He currently teaches at his alma mater, the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

Anton Baranov was born in 1984 in the Northwest region of Russia. He graduated from the famous St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory in 2010 under grants from the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Performing Arts Foundation.
